Tryggvi Ólafsson (1940-2019) is one of the nation's best-known artists. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and lived and worked there most of his life. Tryggvi's unique art reflects his life experience and beliefs, he was inspired by myths, his homesickness, memories and reflections on the world and the fate of men.

 

In Tryggvi’s hometown, Neskaupsstaður, a museum has been established about his work, called Tryggvasafn.
